Christof Melcher
Who I am and what I am doing:
I am a former student of the work group for applied mathematical
analysis of Professor Willi Jäger.
Born in Mannheim
in 1972, I began my studies in mathematics
and physics at the University of Heidelberg
in 1993 where I got my degree in april 1999.
Since may 1999 I am a Ph.D. student in the
research group of Professor Stefan Müller
at the
Max-Planck-Institute for Mathematics
in the Sciences
in
Leipzig
.
My main research areas lie in the theory of nonlinear partial
differential equations. I am particularly interested in
multiscale problems arising from continuum mechanics and
materials science. At present I am working on the internal
structure of magnetic domain walls and the formation of
patterns and microstructure in thin ferromagnetic films.
Scientific Interests:
- Nonlinear partial differential equations
- Multiscale phenomena and singular limits
- Micromagnetics, especially thin films
You can downlowd a postscript version of my (german) diploma thesis on
elastically bounded
Fluids and a preprint of recent results on
Néel walls in ferromagnetic film.
